MLB Standings 2011 –
Detroit Tigers will clinch the AL Central: It's a MLB Odds probability;
the Detroit Tigers will clinch the American League Central Division
championship this weekend. All they need is to win a game or Chicago White Sox
lose one. Either way, the division belongs to Detroit in the Major League
Standings 2011. Only a month ago, the Tigers were locked in a three way duel
with Cleveland and Chicago. Then Detroit peeled off 12 straight wins, a streak
broken Thursday at Oakland. The loss prevented the Tigers from clinching the
division title, but no big deal; it'll come this weekend. The Tigers began a
four game road series with Oakland Thursday, then move on to Kansas City for
two before returning to Detroit Sept. 22. So far; the Philadelphia
Phillies are the only club to secure a playoff spot and only need a win or an
Atlanta Braves loss to clinch the National League East Division. The Braves
currently are leading the Wild Card race but the St. Louis Cardinals have made
a game out of it; creeping to within 4 1/2 games of Atlanta in the Wild Card
standings. The Braves have a schedule advantage in their duel with the
Cardinals who begin a four game weekend series on the road with the Phillies.
In the mean time; Atlanta catches the weaker New York Mets for three at home.
Another story getting headlines are events
in the AL East. The New York Yankees appear to be on their way to winning the
division with a 4 1/2 game standings lead over the Boston Red Sox with 14 to
play. Three of those remaining games will be head to head in Yankee Stadium
with the Red Sox. While the Red Sox have time to catch New York, they haven't
been acting like it, losing eight of their last 10 games. For most of the
season it's looked like the AL Wild Card would go to either New York or Boston,
depending on the club that doesn't win the division. That has all changed due
to the Red Sox slump; allowing the Tampa Bay Rays to climb within three games.
The three divisional leaders in the NL will
more than likely hold on to those spots; the closest being Milwaukee with a 5
1/2 game cushion over St. Louis. The Phillies lead is double-digit and the
Arizona Diamondbacks have pulled away from the Giants leading the NL West by
seven.
The story in the AL West is much different.
The Texas Rangers hold a 3 1/2 game lead over the second place Los Angeles
Angels. If LA can narrow the gap a game or two they have a chance to catch
Texas when they meet in Angels Stadium the final series of the regular season.
LA is currently in Baltimore for a weekend set with the Orioles. The Rangers
begin a three game series with the Mariners at Safeco Field in Seattle, the
first of a six game western road swing. The MLB Odds 2011 are definitely in the
Rangers favor.
